Outdoor bohemian wedding in Scotland

A wedding weekend for two large families with relatives and friends from Canada to New Zealand met for a celebration of Laken & James in Scotland. The celebration was held in a very relaxed atmosphere far away from any kind of civilisation or neighbours.

Interesting, that the beautiful wedding arch with the blue hydrangea’s flowers was entirely self-made. Early in the morning of 08.08. a few Laken’ s and Jame’s relatives began gathering flowers and interesting branches that could be used for the ceremony arch while another group were busy constructing the carcass and placing the greenery. It took a while and after placing the final symbol –

a horseshoe for good luck – it was finished. The ceremony was also marked with a rug that was taken from the mansion. It turned out to be a thoughtful idea as Laken chose to walk down the aisle barefoot.

For the couple photo-shoot we went to the “backyard” of the mansion and looked for some interesting meadows or paths. I saw this interesting patch of ferns and immediately wanted them to be among that. Little did I know that it got James’s woollen socks cover in bur. Later it took a while to pick all of the hooked seeds off the them. I still feel a little bit bad about it.

In the evening everyone continued with dancing ceilidh. As far as I remember, no one knew how to dance it properly and we had no one who actually grew up in Scotland so it turned out as dance lesson led by the local band. They showed all the steps and then the party tried to keep up with the rhythm and not to bump into each other. Everyone were so engaged that this activity lasted up to the last song.
